BAGUA CLASSES 2010 - SUNDAYS - 10-11:30am
BAGUA / level 1
sundays -- 10:00-11:30AM
Bagua is a beautiful internal martial art that uses powerful spiraling movements and forms while simultaneously walking in a circle, doing multiple changes of direction, speed, height, rhythm and tempo. Practicing Bagua develops inner strength, agility and a calm mind. It accomplishes this through its self-defense forms that are based upon Taoist principles and natural movement. It is considered the sister art to Taichi, incorporating and applying all of its core principles, but in a more dynamic and athletically challenging way.
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Qigong and Taoist Yoga
Each Bagua class begins with various methods of Qigong practices and Taoist Yoga stretching exercises. These combined warm-ups greatly help open-up the body's energy meridians and better prepares the joints and limbs to perform all the Bagua exercises, drills and forms.
LEVEL 1 - Fundamentals (Core Exercises and Palm Changes)
In these level 1 classes master instructor, Joseph Zeisky, will focus on teaching the fundamental skills of Bagua training using these primary methods: heavenly stems stretching, circle walking meditation, mother palms, and the single palm change and snake palm change forms. The basic choreography, methods, forms, drills, exercises and palm changes taught in these level 1 classes are a unique blend of the teachings and works of two great modern day masters of Baguazhang: Master Lou Dexiu of Taiwan and Master Bruce Kumar Frantzis of the United States.
Dress
It is highly recommended to wear very loose fitting sweat pants and long sleeve shirts made of only natural materials, such as 100% organic cotton, raw silk, linen or other natural fibers; this will allow the body greater freedom of movement, comfort and maxium breathability.
Footwear
It is also highly recommended to wear loose fitting flat soled shoes, such as cotton soled taichi shoes, kung-fu/wushu shoes, leather, canvas or cotton sneakers with a very thin rubber sole, socks that have thin rubber grippers on the soles or you can simply practice barefoot. But, please avoid using street shoes, jogging shoes or regular sneakers that have too much cushioning and elevation, because this prevent your Achilles tendon and feet from being properly exercised and developed.
Zeigua Teaching Style
Joseph’s unique way of blending the various styles and teachings of his his teachers, and method of balancing more traditional approaches to training with the needs of today's modern-day students, is a method he simply refers to as ZEIGUA; this will be the teaching approach taught throughout all the classes at Peridance Capezio Center.
