Taichi Group Classes
37 Move Form | Qigong | Taoist Yoga

TAICHI CLASSES 2010 - SUNDAYS - 11:30AM-1PM

TAICHI / 37 Movement Short Form / level 1
sundays -- 11:30AM-1:00PM

For the first time in New York City, master instructor, Joseph Zeisky, will be offering group classes in this highly respected Tai Chi Chuan Form (created by the late Grand Master, Professor Cheng Man Ching) as a base for teaching Taichi Principle. The 37-movement form is a modified and shortened version of the Yang Family Style Taichi Long Form. It emphasizes a steady and even transfer of weight and power from one leg to the other, without any jarring motions. Throughout most of the form, the legs of the body are maintained in a slightly bent position as if seated on a high chair, while the upper body is held in a fairly upright position. Once the choreography is learned, it only takes 10-15 minutes to perform, and daily practice can greatly reduces stress and fatigue, while simultaneously developing leg strength and power. Additionally, these are some other well-known benefits: a calmer mind and emotions, better balance and coordination, better flexibility and looser hips, and increased internal energy and vitality.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Qigong and Taoist Yoga
Each Taichi class begins with various methods of Qigong practices and Taoist Yoga stretching exercises. These combined warm-ups greatly help to open-up the body's energy meridians and better prepares the joints and limbs to perform the Taichi form.

Form Choreography
In these level 1 classes, Joseph will focus on learning the basic structure of all the postures within the 37-Movement Form and how to smoothly transition from one posture to the next. Normally, by attending one to two classes per week, one can complete the whole level 1 Taichi form in about 3-6 months. But, it would be wiser of the beginner and more experienced practitioner alike, to be less hurried and set a more reasonable goal of 8-12 months. By being more patient and gentle with yourself, you will be able to develop and sustain more health and strength.

Dress
It is highly recommended to wear very loose fitting sweat pants and long sleeve shirts made of only natural materials, such 100% organic cotton, raw silk, linen or other natural fibers; this will allow the body greater freedom of movement, comfort and maxium breathability.

Footwear
It is also highly recommended to wear loose fitting flat soled shoes, such as cotton soled taichi shoes, kung-fu/wushu shoes, leather, canvas or cotton sneakers with a very thin rubber sole, socks that have thin rubber grippers on the soles or one can simply go barefoot. But, please avoid using street shoes, jogging shoes or regular sneakers that have too much cushioning and elevation, because this prevent your Achilles tendon and feet from being properly exercised and developed.

Zeigua Teaching Style
Joseph’s unique way of blending the various styles and teachings of his his teachers, and method of balancing more traditional approaches to training with the needs of today's modern-day students, is a method he simply refers to as ZEIGUA; this will be the teaching approach taught throughout all the classes at Peridance Capezio Center.
