One of many ZHAN ZHUANG (Standing Meditation) exercises used in the internal martial arts system of Yiquan.

Yi Quan (pronounced yee chuan) primarily develops martial power and fighting skill through Zhan Zhuan (Standing Mediation) or "Standing Pole" exercises. Due to the simplicity of these forms and exercises, the same training also serve as the method for improving one's health and well-being. Yiquan is a martial art that highly values cultivating mind intention and energy over practicing "empty forms."

Wang XiangzhaiYiquan's founder Wang Xiangzhai (1885-1963)

Yiquan is a relatively new system created by the Great Grand Master Wang Xiangzhai. He was highly influenced by xingyiquan but was also greatly inspired by baguazhang, taijiquan, baihequan (white crane kungfu) and western boxing. He traveled all over China meeting with many masters, comparing skills with them and exchanging experiences. After a lifetime of practice and research into many different kinds of martial arts, Wang became one of the first Chinese masters to teach openly to benefit the public. He was one of the greatest masters of Chinese martial arts of the 20th century.
